I Saw Rachel Liang In Sungei Wang
Monday, February 23, 2009
Yesterday I was too 'overwhelmed' with the fire case happened in Pusat Bandar Damansara. So I forgot to write this blog post. Actually I saw Rachel Liang in Sungei Wang when I went there for lunch with my friend.
Rachel Liang (梁文音) is a taiwanese singer. She participated in the second season of Million Star (超级星光大道) singing competition and she started her career as a full time singer from then. I have been watching Million Star but I missed the second season. I only watched the first and third seasons so I did not know her initially.
It was until the recent Chinese New Year when I saw her on a television program hosted by Jacky Wu (吴宗宪). I was a little attracted by her singing. But still I did not know much about her. Then I saw some advertisements about her and her latest album on the television.
What a coincidence! I did not plan to go Sungei Wang at the beginning. But my friend and I could not find decent food in that area, not even in Jalan Alor because it was still in the afternoon! So we ended up eating in Sungei Wang. We saw many people on the stage and quite a number of them holding her music album. Then I saw Rachel Liang signing the album one by one on the stage and smiling at her fans. Too bad I did not get to listen her singing live on the stage because I was still eating at the chicken rice stall. But frankly speaking she looks prettier and fairer on the television. Maybe I did not see properly because I was behind a huge crowd at that time!

Government Complex In Pusat Bandar Damansara Is On Fire!
Sunday, February 22, 2009
Yes. When I am writing this blog post, the Government Complex in Pusat Bandar Damansara is still on fire. Why am I concerned about it? Because my college is also in Pusat Bandar Damansara and it is quite near to my hostel. Today when I came back from other places, the bus which I took could not drive into the lane where I normally alight at. So I quickly asked the bus driver to let me just alight at the spot.
Eventually I went back to my hostel and started blogging about it.

Have You Empowered Your Blog RSS Feed With Feedburner?
Saturday, February 21, 2009
If you do not know what RSS feed is, please read my previous post where I explained what RSS is and how we can use it. If you are a mere online surfer, I think you do not have to read this post. The reason is I am going to talk further in how we can use Feedburner to empower our blog RSS feed. If you are neither a blogger nor webmaster, the following information is unimportant for you. However, you may still contiune reading if you are interested in Feedburner and RSS.
So what is Feedburner?
It's a bit technical and complicated. After all, I took the explanation above from the Feedburner official website itself.FeedBurner is a Chicago-based company that provides media distribution and audience engagement services for blogs and RSS feeds. Its Web-based tools, including an extensive feed and blog advertising network, help publishers promote, deliver, and monetize their content on the Web and make feed-based content more accessible and manageable for its end users.
How did I discover Feedburner?
When I first started blogging back in year 2005, I knew nothing about RSS. I believe Feedburner was still not popular at that time. It was only until late in year 2007 when I discovered Feedburner on Yaro Starak's blog. Yaro Starak is currently a popular ProBlogger in Australia. I was very curious about the little widget on his blog sidebar which prompts the visitors to subscribe to his RSS feeds. Besides, he also installed a counter which displays the number of people who have subscribed to his blog RSS via Feedburner. Hence, I tried to explore Feedburner myself without referring to any other source. It's such a simple and easy tool as I could integrate my blog RSS feed with feedburner in less than 1 minute, without any prior experience. What important is that Feedburner is 100% free! Until today, I am still using Feedburner.
Google Acquired Feedburner For $100 Million In Cash!
Before I started using Feedburner, Google had acquired Feedburner for $100 Million in cash! If you have been following my blog, you should know that I am a big fan of Google. Therefore I tend to trust Feedburner more than any other RSS syndication service. If Google is willing to invest $100 Million cash in Feedburner, why wouldn't I be willing to spend 1 minute just to create a free account and syndicate my RSS feed with Feedburner? In addition, you may publish Google Adsense advertisement on your Feedburner-powered RSS feed. It means another revenue source for the fellow bloggers who have substantial amount of RSS subscribers.Simple Video Explaining Why We Should Use And How We Can Use Feedburner
I have found a video that explains what Feedburner is and why we should use it. You may watch it in the following video. The video is done by Gideon Shalwick from BecomeABlogger.com.
Finally, please subscribe to my blog RSS feed by locating the cute RSS icon on the right sidebar. Thank you!

Johor Bahru Is Never A Safe Place
Wednesday, February 11, 2009
Today I stumbled upon this news when I rambled around the Internet.
Men with parangs slash, rob bus driverSBS160 is one of the buses that I normally take to travel to Singapore via the Causeway. Fortunately I was not on the bus at that time. Otherwise I would be stunned and petrified of the incident. The driver is so pathetic. Hopefully the robbers will be caught by policemen very soon. However, everyone knows how "competence" our policemen are. I just cannot imagine how the prisoners could escape the police custody.
By Farik Zolkepli
JOHOR BARU: Two parang-wielding men slashed a bus driver and robbed him during an attack inside a Singapore bound transit bus.The attack, believed to be the first involving the (SBS) Transit Services bus number 160, occurred at about 3.45pm Tuesday near a mall along Jalan Tun Abd Razak when the two men, posing as passengers, boarded the bus at the Kotaraya Terminal.
It is learnt that as the bus reached the mall here, the men took out parangs and demanded money from the 28-year-old driver.
Sources said that when the driver refused, they slashed him on the arm and took cash amounting to RM260 and S$50.
As the driver slowed the bus due to his injury, the two men jumped off the bus and fled. The two passengers on the bus were not robbed or hurt.
The Malaysian driver, who is also a Singaporean permanent resident, then sought treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
He then reported the matter at the Central Police station at about 7pm the same day.
Johor deputy CID chief Asst Comm Che Yusoff Che Ngah confirmed the incident and said on Wednesday that police were in the process of identifying the suspects.
Meanwhile, on another matter, ACP Che Yusoff said that the hunt was still on for the 21-year-old suspect, who escaped police custody on Tuesday.
"We are still searching for the suspect," he said.
On Tuesday, the suspect escaped as he and other prisoners were being transferred from the Ayer Molek penitentiary to the Johor Jaya police station.
The incident occurred, as the prisoners were about to arrive at the station at about 11.50am.
ACP Che Yusoff urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999 or the nearest police station.

My Part Time Job As An Internet Marketer
Tuesday, February 10, 2009
For the past half a year, I have been working as a part time Internet marketer for an online business company. Recently, my boss decided to give me a fixed full time salary. Although the salary is pretty low, I can still continue working from home on a part time basis. That means I do not have to travel all the way to the office everyday. I just have to stay at college hostel and do some casual works, including website optimization, search engine optimization (SEO), social media marketing, blog marketing, some offline marketing, etc. The best thing is that I can decide my own working hour. So it will never clash with my lessons and my personal schedule.
The company is Quantum88 and it is a web-based company that provides online directory, storefront, digital products, etc. You may visit the website now and get access to thousands of free digital items, mainly MMS. Just today my boss came to my college to deliver some promotional materials for offline marketing to me. Let's check it out! So I got all these pocket calendars that I have to distribute them to mainly students at my college. Tomorrow I will bring some of calendars along to attend my class and start distributing them.
Anyway, by taking up the job, I have enough income to supplement my daily expenses as well as monthly rental. The salary might be low for most of us, but it is still much higher than what the college internship program offers. It really has relieved my financial burden and I can now concentrate on my studies as well as my part time business.

My Personal Experience With Blogger, Wordpress and Self-hosted Blog
Thursday, February 5, 2009
Blogger.com or Blogspot.com is one of the most popular blog service providers on the Internet. If you have been blogging for quite some time, chances are you either used Blogger before or you are still using it now. The reason why many people are using Blogger is because it is FREE and very user-friendly. It's so simple that you can create a blog in 3 easy steps and start publishing your first post straightaway. Another factor is that Blogger is owned by Google, currently the biggest giant in the Web 2.0 age. Therefore, people tend to trust Google more than other blog service providers.
In terms of English blog company, Blogger has got a very strong competitor and its name is Wordpress. Wordpress has got two different blog platforms, namely Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org. Some of my friends are using Wordpress.com to publish their blog posts. However, Wordpress.com does not allow the users to monetize their blogs. In other words, you cannot display any advertisements or affiliate links on your Wordpress.com blog. Otherwise, you are risking your blog for being banned or suspended.
If you are using free blog services, you have to publish your blog on subdomain and the blog provider actually owns your blog. Of course you can host your Blogger blog on a custom domain name, just like what I am doing now. But most of the time, a Blogger blog uses web address at yourname.blogspot.com and it is 100% owned by Google. So Google can shut down your blog any time without prior notification. Note, this happened to Chedet.com, a personal blog of Tun Mahathir.
Before this, I actually hosted Su Sheng Loong Dot Com on my web host and used Wordpress.org as my blog platform. Wordpress.org is not just a simple blogging software, but it is more like a powerful content management system(CMS). The reason is Wordpress.org is a free open source software whereby there are so many free plugins and themes online that you can use to empower your blog. For instance, by activating some plugins, your Wordpress.org blog will be very Search Engine Optimization (SEO) friendly. The only trade-off is that you have to pay for the custom domain name and web hosting account. Since you own your blog now, no one can shut down your blog except your hosting or Internet service provider.
My web hosting account in Malaysia is going to expire in late February. But I was too lazy to move Su Sheng Loong Dot Com to my web host in the United States because it would consume much time and effort. Hence, I decided to start an entire new blog on Blogger while keeping SuShengLoong.com as the custom domain name for my blog. Initially, I was not very used to Blogger as it was way too simple! It was only after a few weeks when I discovered that i could actually do many modification on Blogger by implementing some legal hacking methods. So far, I am satisfied with Blogger and I hope it will not shut down my blog in the future.

Introduction to Google Advertising Programs
Monday, February 2, 2009
In the previous post, I wrote about how Google makes so much money despite providing many free online services. Today I am going to write about how all of us can make money from Google, through its two advertising programs. Basically, the two advertising programs are Google Adwords and Google Adsense.
Google Adwords is a cost per click advertising program, which means you only pay when people clicks on your advertisement. Google Adwords is mainly used by e-commerce owners or Internet marketers who need targeted traffic to their online stores or landing pages with affiliate products. The cost is calculated based on the biding price of keyword that you add to your campaign. So the bidding price is basically all about demand and supply of a particular keyword. Some competitive keywords can be very expensive. For instance, the keyword "auto insurance quote" has a average cost per click of about $124. It means that you have to pay Google $124 when someone clicks on your advertisement that is optimized for the keyword "auto insurance quote". Smart Internet marketers often do keyword analysis to find cheap keywords that can bring them targeted traffic for small but profitable niches.
There are actually two advertising options in Google Adwords, either on search engine or content network. Search engine advertisement is what we normally see on the right hand side of the Google search result page. On the other hand, advertising on content network means publishing your advertisement on other people's websites through Google Adsense program. Most of the time, advertising on search engine is more expensive than content network, but the traffic properties from seach engine tend to be better.
If you do not have money to invest in paid advertising, or you do not have any product to sell or promote, you might want to join Google Adsense. In a nutshell, Google Adsense is pay per click advertising program that caters for web publishers and bloggers. A web publisher has to copy some codes generated by Google and paste them on the website and the advertisement will automatically appear on the website. When someone clicks on the advertisement, the web publisher will get paid a certain amount of commission. indeed a "win win win" situation for all three parties. Almost same as Google Adwords, the revenue per click will depend on the cost per click paid by the advertiser. The higher the cost per click of a keyword, the more revenue will the web publisher yield from someone clicking that particular advertisement. However, this is not always true as Google has a special policy called "smart pricing" that shuns the publisher from earning a lot of money from the so called "high paying keywords". Smart pricing is mainly used to protect the advertisers and Google.
In fact, there are so many things to learn if you wish to make money by using Google Adwords or from Google Adsense. Many beginners have lost thousands of dollars in one day from Google Adwords as they do not do proper keyword research and analysis before running the advertising campaign. On the other hand, many web publishers can hardly make one dollar per day from Google Adsense as they either do not bring enough traffic or do not optimize the advertisement.
This post is just about the introduction to Google Adwords and Adsense. In the upcoming post, I will write more details about the two programs. Stay tune!

Human Day, My Chinese Birthday
Sunday, February 1, 2009
A very weird title right? I just reached my college hostel in Kuala Lumpur. Before this, I went to "Mama's Kitchen", where I normally had my dinner here. I saw some people eating Yusheng (also known as "Yee Sang" or "鱼生") at the restaurant. In case you do not know what Yusheng is, look at the picture below.
This was the Yusheng I had just now. Today is Renri("Human Day" in Mandarin), the seventh day of Chinese New Year and Chinese believe that it was the day when human beings were created. During Renri, we will have Yusheng as an appetizer to raise 'good luck' for the new year. Actually my family and I don't normally eat Yusheng every year.
But hey, Renri is a special day for me. Today is also my 20th Chinese birthday according to the Chinese calendar. I was born on the Renri in year 1990. Note, Chinese age is one year older than the normal age.
What interesting is that tomorrow is my birthday again. My birthday is on 2nd February. Ehem, just a reminder for you so you know what to do tomorrow. Haha, just kidding. I am exhausted now so I can't write a long post today. Wish you all have a great Chinese New Year!
